I’m writing this post to **warn anyone considering Gotrax e-bikes**, especially the **Gotrax R2 folding model** — but honestly, this goes for their whole brand.

I bought the R2 on Amazon Canada after weeks of comparison and research. On paper, it seemed great: 500W motor, pedal assist up to 89 km, foldable, solid design. I paid over **$1000 CAD**, and it even came with decent reviews, but the reality? **A TOTAL SCAM.**

Here’s a breakdown of my experience:

🔻 **Out of the box:**

* Rear brake was scraping metal on metal
* Front fender was crooked and poorly aligned
* Manual and support were basically useless

🔻 **Performance failure:**

* First ride was on full charge, using only **pedal assist**, no throttle, average speed \~25 km/h
* I'm 77kg, riding on mostly flat terrain
* **Battery dropped a bar after 5 km… by 24.3 km I had 1 bar left**
* After ***fully charging*** **again**, I reached only **70.6 km total over almost two full charges**
* This is nowhere near the promised range, **not even close.**
* No sign of calibration or battery conditioning effects, just **false advertising**

🔻 **Support:**

* Gotrax offers no real solution, I emailed them, but they didn't reply
* Amazon offered me a **partial refund of $268**, then a **full refund** after further complaints

🚨 Final word: This company **over-promises and under-delivers.** Their e-bikes are shipped with defects, have **wildly inaccurate specs**, and fall apart under normal use. And they rely on **returns being too difficult** to get away with it.

If I could go back, I’d buy from literally any other reputable brand.

**DO NOT fall for Gotrax.** You’re better off walking.

I hope this post saves someone the stress I went through.

Feel free to ask questions, I’ll be happy to share details.
