Bot matches directly impede the ability to get better
I have a friend who’s trying to learn new characters and he’ll update me on his performance and I naturally get skeptical when ge says he goes from 5/6 to 20/1. I look up his history in tracker.gg and yep, the good games are bot matches.
I think this is important because if he has a crazy game he’ll start to think actually maybe he’s good with this character or that he’s clicked with them, and if he’s flip flopping between getting stomped and having to put forth zero effort he’s just gonna be confused to what his skill level actually is and frustrated that it seems to change so wildly.
So now I have the awkward job of telling him about this which is only gonna demoralize him more which defeats the whole point of introducing these types of matches to make players feel better. I really do think bot matches the game forces you into with no heads up or way to opt out in the short time might help someone have more fun in a play session but long term just make people worse off
