Does a low effort opening msg ever improve? Eg “hi”

Two questions I suppose:

1. If you’re someone who opens with a low effort message: what are you expecting? Do you actually want to chat with me or are you just bored? Should I take you seriously as a potential date?

2. Has anyone ever received this sort of opener, responded and things improved? It seems so lazy and zero effort to me, like I’ll be expected to do all the work. I prefer mutual enthusiasm. Should I give benefit of the doubt?
