Conflict Resolution?
I am scared I will never keep a relationship, they will always end in my giving up.
My parents never taught me sustainable conflict resolution techniques. My mum grew up in an abusive, broken family. My dad grew up as the only boy with an alcoholic father. My mum only recently accepted that she deserved to live, that she was enough to speak up for. My dad grew up knowing that if he tried hard enough, pushed hard enough, that he would get what he wanted.
Arguments start with deep breaths followed by questions we already formed answers to. Arguments end with crying and screaming.
I shut myself in my room, let myself cry, and then we all pretend nothing ever happened.
This isn't healthy.
How do you learn conflict resolution when you grow up in a household that never had anything like it? How do you learn conflict resolution when you grow up with parents who let their parents die before anything was said?
The resentment runs deep, a resentment they won't talk about, a resentment I was taught not to mention.
How do you improve conflict resolution?
I know that it isn't "too late", I am young and I want to work on myself, I just don't know where to start.
