Why not using recent works in school
I'm in the french system, and in french class we analyse and learn morals about some books that got written like at least 200-300 years ago.
I understand the past is important but we already have history class , and I know most of the students are not interested in the slightest about these , and finish the year without learning anything.
Would it be a bad idea to work about recent pieces of media , could still be books but from 1970 to now to have a more recent point of view and be able to identify while reading it and it being more accurate , could even be a more visual medium like series , movies , anime.
Is this even possible ? As far as I know recent works also have values , morales and methods to convey those. I'm just a bit disappointed by how useless and stuck in the past a lot of educational systems are , not even bothering to make you learn something you'll be more attracted to , thinking the more Time passes the less qualitative it is.
