Are my hobbies suitable to discuss for vet school apps?

I understand that many veterinary schools ask about hobbies, because they want to know that we have a well-balanced life outside of just vet med.

My question is, are my hobbies suitable to discuss on my applications? Most people are open to them, but sometimes I get mixed reactions because people can be skeptical or think it’s strange.

These hobbies are astrology and psychic mediumship! I discovered astrology a few years ago and have studied it in a course. I read people’s charts to help them with validating/unpacking difficult circumstances, offering optimism, etc. It’s been an amazing healing tool for myself and others, it brings a lot of self awareness to our own special gifts that we may underplay, along with our traumas and how we can heal from them. 🩵

With mediumship, I connect to people’s passed loved ones! It offers them a sense of connection and peace. I can communicate with humans and animals, on the other side. I actually lost my first cat very recently and it was devastating 😔 I went to my friend for a session during my last week with her and it helped me immensely. When I spoke to my vet about this, she actually told me that she has a vet colleague who does it too and sometimes offers it after assisting clients with saying goodbye to their pets. This all made me realize that this could be possible for myself as well.

These skills have offered me so many healing, emotional, sentimental and just downright beautiful experiences with other humans! They help me connect to something outside of myself and bring me so much comfort when it comes to saying goodbye to our beloved furry friends. 🥺 They are valuable to me and I believe showcase my empathy and passion to help not only animals, but people as well.

However, I am unsure on if this will be looked down upon by vet school admissions? I do want to be true myself and I am passionate about these things, but I am curious to hear opinions! Thank you so much!
