Fort Lee vs Weehawken/Union City?
Moving end of this summer to start a job in Englewood NJ. Any advice on where I should live?
I’m trying to balance having a reasonable commute with being able to get into Manhattan at least occasionally on the weekends or even after work to e.g., visit friends. I’ve heard from folks / read on other advice posts that I should probably have a car, and I definitely would if I lived in Weehawken/Union City, whereas in Fort Lee I could maybe save on the car expenses and just take a bus to work. I’m just torn since it seems like a really long trek from Fort Lee to anywhere else.
Some specific questions:
-
How long is the rush hour commute between Weehawken/Union City to Englewood area? Google is telling me anywhere between 20-50 minutes, so just trying to gauge which end of that range I should be prepared for.
-
What’s the fastest way into the city from Fort Lee? I’ve looked at the transit options, just wondering if there’s any magic combination of e.g., biking across the GWB or driving down to the Lincoln Tunnel that would be faster than the long bus ride.
-
Does Fort Lee vs Union City / Weehawken feel noticeably different? I’ve heard Union City / Weehawken is more suburban, but that Fort Lee may also still be pretty sleepy.
-
Are there any other areas I should be considering?
Thank you so much!!
