First game with the Rock tonight

Detachment feels great. This is the elite infantry army I've been trying to make work.

Went against CSM Raiders(?), full assault on his army whatever that is.

List:

Lion
Azrael + 10x Hellblasters
Termi Librarian + 10x Terminators
Apothecary Biologus + 6x Aggressors
5x Intercessors
5x Intercessors
3x Inceptors
1x Repulsor
1x Gladiator Lancer

I didn't get to T1 deepstrike with the librarian, the board was just too cluttered and the only useful place to put them was on an edge and I could just tell it would've been bad.

Layout was Sweeping Engagement, Terraform.

Turn 1: I go second

He sent his Disco Lord to the far right objective, it was fairly open, but it kind of got the game going, everything else he mostly staged into safe positions. A rhino full of Chosen and 2 leaders were in ruins near the center objective alongside 5 Legionnaire's.

I draw Assassinate and Recover--Recover kinda sucks here. The army just doesn't have enough dudes to score that and a lot of it was in deep strike, I couldn't move far enough with the intercessors because they were on the fat side of Sweeping Engagement. I CP discard it for a new one--Cleanse--Fuck. Same problem.

Disco lord survives: full Repulsor shooting (rolled 1/2's on every strong attack), full Aggressor shooting, full Hellblaster shooting, and then finally died to the Lancer. Which sucked. I should've burnt a CP on the hellblasters to put them to S9 shooting, I didn't want to commit the overcharge because the Disco Lord was already weakened, but S9 would've wounded on 4's instead of 5's and maybe gotten there to open the Lancer to shoot his tank.

I position with the expectation that his Chosen will get out of the rhino through the wall and advanced/charge my hellblasters, with Lion close enough to Heroic Intervene if necessary, and blocking the main path they'd take to get to them. I'm pretty proud of not overcommitting with the hellblasters, they were crucial throughout the game and survived.

I score assassinate and own two points.

Turn 2:

He just about kills my Aggressors on the far-right objective, deep strikes some obliterators to attack them, makes the charge, only a few aggressors and the repulsor left over there. He opts not to unload the chosen, scores Locus/Area Denial in center, terraforms far left objective and holds it, good turn for him.

I rapid ingress my Terminators into his back line, poised to take his home objective as nothing is available to shoot them (all still in deep strike or in transport).

On the clap back I draw Engage on All Fronts and Extend Battlelines. I deep strike the inceptors in one quadrant, assuming I make a 4" charge to his home objective with terminators. (I do)

I wipe out his predator tank and his lego's on the far left objective with the gladiator lancer, hellblasters, and inceptors. Lancer was a dud, had to kill the tank with CP 10 str hellblasters, only lost one guy from overcharge.

Charge phase, Lion activates, deals 32 wounds to a Rhino and kills it to force the chosen out. The repulsor tank shocks the Obliterator for perfect change. We can't stop laughing at the idea of a space marine in a giant tank just seeing demons spawning from the warp and hit the gas, run this giant blob of flesh over, then casually do a K turn. Terminators storm his home objective. Full score engage / extend.

Turn 3:

He draws Marked for Death and something else, I mark things, he sadly fails to kill any major ones but small scored it by killing the aggressors as his choice. I have two tanks lined up on his forgefiend on the far right, I have Lion an inch away from the chosen and lego's in the center, my terminators took his back line, he deep striked the terminators where he could but they fail their charges and fail to do any real damage. He sees no other option than to charge the Lion.

Lion, once again, hits 8 times, wounds 8 times, kills 8 chosen. It passes to my turn, I draw Defend Stronghold and something else, I forget what, but it was auto-completed basically.

It was late and he scooped, the terminators were so far away from the rest of the battle, Lion would kill the rest of the center, the tanks killed the Forgefiend then killed the remaining 3 lego's on far right, I'd own his home / center / right / my home.

Takeaways:

Lion is insane now. The new detachment is great. 10 Terminator bricks felt like a mistake, for like 400 points, yeah they did something important, but a muuuuch smaller unit could've done that. First time using Hellblasters, they bang. Aggressors still feel kinda bad. Maybe if THEY charged something, that would be good, but they're slow as fuck and don't have deep strike. A million 4 strength shots are still a million 4 strength shots and even with Lethals from Biologus they felt kinda bad.
