This might be the wrong subreddit to ask, but is there anyone to explain how can seemingly vast majority of Poles to this day openly say Soviets were worse than Nazis?

Not just Poles, but Baltics and other people too - for Baltics, at least you can maybe argue Soviets were indeed on the whole worse for them (for them only). But Nazis killed 3 million Jews and almost 3 million Poles in 5 years alone. Razed Warsaw and other cities and villages to the ground for the sake of their deranged ideology. Generalplan Ost called for Germanisation, slave labour or extermination of all the remaining Poles, and hundreds of millions of other Eastern Europeans, and was not implemented mainly because Nazis did not have the time and means to implement it in full before being defeated.

Soviets ruled Poland for 45 years. I am absolutely not going to make excuses for that or Katyn. Soviets were a terrible regime to be under by any reasonable metric and committed a very long list of their own crimes. But how are so many people there so willing to completely ignore the undoubted, established historiographic facts and flat out downplay Nazi atrocities? To be completely unbothered by the hard numbers that show it is not even remotely a contest of who killed more? They never even bother specifying they are talking about their country only - it is almost always an uniquevocal, universal, "Soviets were worse than Nazis". Grandparent stories are commonly taken as vastly more credible and relevant for the question of who overall was, in the big picture, worse. Historiography and basic non-controversial facts are completely ignored.

It is really tiring to see this over and over. I know most people in the West are not aware of this in the first place, but this culture of utter denialism and blatant Nazi downplaying is not something i can make peace with.
