Looking for Daily Driver DAP Recommendations
Hey everyone! I'm currently in the market for a new DAP, but IDK where to start looking. I've stuck pretty exclusively to Sony Walkman stuff (Mainly their A, E, and S series), but I just bricked my NW-A45, and after looking at both new and used Walkmans, I've come to the conclusion that, at least for now, I need something that Sony doesn't have for the budget I want to stay within.
REQUIREMENTS:
-
Decent battery life. I'm not too picky, but at least 10 hours minimum would be nice
-
Physical buttons for music controls and power
-
Micro SD card slot ( I have 100+ GB of music. They need to go somewhere)
-
A button similar to Sony's 'Hold' button would be really nice, but if a DAP meets all of my requirements except for this one, then I'd still consider it
-
Standard quality of life stuff: equalizer, album art, playlists, etc.
-
Durable enough for daily use. I try to not be too rough with my DAPs, but they do need to be able to withstand being dropped occasionally.
I have a budget max of ~300$ USD, though I'd be willing to go a little above this. I don't have preferences over custom OS vs. Android. I actually bricked my NW-A45 trying to get it last fm compatible so maybe an Android DAP with last fm scrobbling capabilities would be nice? I'll be honest, I have minimal experience with non-phone Android devices so idk how that would work.
I was looking at the Eva HiBy R4 and I would absolutely buy it. It meets most of my requirements and I love the design of it, but I read some mixed things about it here (heat, potentially getting stuck in Dallas customs, units arriving unfunctional, etc.). I'm also scared of tariffs, but I'd imagine that a lot of DAP manufacturers are based in China so that's not HiBy exclusive.
Any other recommendations? Any strong opinions on the Eva R4?
