Is it normal to need a SoC voltage bump for 6000MHz EXPO on 7800X3D?
I'm using an ASRock B650 PG Lightning motherboard with a Ryzen 7 7800X3D and a G.Skill Trident Z5 NEO 2x16GB 6000MHz memory kit. For the past month, my system has become unstable when EXPO is enabled, frequently resulting in BSODs. I’ve tried resetting the BIOS, updating it to the latest version(3.25), and even reinstalling Windows 11, but none of these resolved the instability when EXPO is active. When EXPO is disabled, the system runs completely stable.
Initially, I suspected a faulty memory module, since enabling EXPO and running MemTest86 on each stick individually showed errors on one of them. Today, I replaced the kit with a Silicon Power Value Gaming DDR5 2x16GB 6000MHz set, but that also showed errors under EXPO, which made me doubt it was a memory issue.
After some research, I found that increasing the SoC voltage could help with stability. The default SoC voltage was 1.20V, so I manually increased it to 1.25V. After doing that, both memory kits passed MemTest86 with EXPO enabled, and the system seems stable.
My question is: is it normal for a 7800X3D to require a manual SoC voltage bump to run 6000MHz EXPO profiles stably? Could this be due to IMC variance between CPU samples?
