(GA) Tenant rights question: Ongoing issues with Cortland / The Battery ATL — need advice on next steps
Hi all — I’m looking for guidance on how to protect myself legally and possibly escalate my situation.
I rent at a Cortland property (The Battery Atlanta). I’ve experienced [briefly describe main issue — e.g., repeated flooding, management neglect, unsafe conditions, misleading lease terms]. Despite multiple complaints, delays, and promises, the issues have not been resolved properly.
Here’s the situation:
My unit flooded multiple times, damaging my belongings, but management hasn’t addressed the root cause.
I transferred units after they agreed to waive income verification, but now they’re making threats about my lease.
I’m being harassed / unfairly charged / facing retaliation.
I’m documenting everything, but I’m unsure of:
1️⃣ What legal protections I have under Georgia tenant laws. 2️⃣ Whether I should contact an attorney or file a complaint (e.g., with the housing authority, AG, HUD, BBB). 3️⃣ What evidence is most useful (I have photos, emails, videos).
I appreciate any advice or direction on how to move forward — especially from anyone who’s dealt with large property management companies like this. Location: Atlanta
