Arizona vs Rhode Island
I know these are two very different states but would like input from people who have lived in or visited both. If not Rhode Island than lower New England is fine. My fiancée and I are torn between these two states for a potential move. We would both be able to work pretty much anywhere as jobs are in demand in both places. I'm in education, so New England wins by a landslide in that regard.
We both like seasons, but she prefers cold winters to hot summers, while I prefer hot summers to cold winters. She's from Alabama and I'm from NE Ohio, and we both hate humidity. She's also transgender, so access to that kind of care is important, as is legislation. I considered moving to Michigan since it's close to my family in NE Ohio but, like most states in that region, the winters are too dark for my liking.
I've lived in Tucson, AZ and loved my time there, but had to move back to the Midwest due to a family emergency. I love the desert southwest and miss it all the time. The heat is oppressive in the summer, and I worry about how my fiancée would handle it. Also, very far from any of our family on the east coast. Never been to New England, closest I got was the east end of Long Island and it felt frozen in time and too isolated. Providence and Rhode Island as a whole looks nice on paper. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
