[TOMT][Browser Game][2010–2012] Virtual world where you needed “drinks” (tokens) to stay in certain chat rooms
Hi all,
This has been eating away at me for years! I’m trying to remember an online game/chat platform I played between 2009–2012. It wasn’t huge or mainstream, but it was so immersive I used to lose track of time.
I stumbled upon it while looking for vampire related games (early teen phase lol) but if I’m not mistaken it was a regular game and had nothing to do with vampires.age wise, it was mixed - teens and people in their 20s (yes, very questionable).
As sad as it is, as a 12-14yr old, It was a game that provided me with escape, distraction and gave me a sense of belonging during a very difficult period. I’d love to be able to at least remember the name for the sake of my sanity. My brain likes playing games on me like wiping the majority of my memories from my childhood and early teens 🙃 any help in finding this game would be greatly appreciated ☺️
Here’s what I remember:
- Entirely English-speaking site, not anime-based
- Rooms had real-time chat — very immersive, people would role play (I remember this happening a lot)
- In certain rooms, you had to receive a “drink” (a gift/token) to stay longer
- Once the drink (timer) finishes you’d typically ask others to “get you a drink”
- You could have public and private chats, and the site was super social
- I used to get completely lost in the conversations - heck I’d jump on my computer or phone the second I got back in from school
ChatGPT was not so helpful. This is the list it came up with:
- IMVU
- vSide
- Zwinky
- TinierMe
- OurWorld
- Habbo
- Gaia Online
