How did you know what to major in?

I'm very early I'm my college experience (1st year) I originally started working towards getting a degree in early childhood education. Although I care a lot about children and their ability to get a quality education I also have a lot of interest in the environment and that is how I spend a lot of my free time. I feel very conflicted changing my major and I was curious how you all knew and if you had any advice.
