Does anyone else get severely pissed off reading about Ottoman history?

Rant/Vent 🤬

We had the Islamic Golden Age starting from the 8th century which lasted a whole 500 years until 1258, a whole 6 centuries before the Christians had their thing with the Renaissance (which started in the 14th century). Not to mention, it was within the first 200 years after Islam whereas 1400 years after Christianity.

Even though Baghdad was destroyed by the Mongols, there still emerged several other powerful Islamic Empires, the most influential of which being the Ottoman Empire. With the trajectory we were going, the Muslim world could’ve had its own enlightenment era centuries before Europe had theirs. On top of that, the Ottomans also rested along the biggest trade route in the world.

Unfortunately, the Ottomans didn’t really value learning and knowledge as much as the Abbasids or Umayyads did. Hence, the Sultans spent way more money on building lavish palaces than education and industrialization, and adopting the latest military tech. Not to mention, the printing press was banned in Ottoman territories for CENTURIES because the scholars saw it as haram.

These kinds of things just really piss me off. We could’ve been at a much better state…
