Traveling to San Diego temps?

My family is traveling to San Diego the end of June through the 4th of July, before we drive up to Anaheim. I’m having trouble knowing what to pack. We are coming from the North East where the temps are starting to climb into the 80’s. We will be staying in Mission Bay. I have looked at the temps and they seem to always be in the low 70’s. In New England that would be chilly (light sweater or pants) is this the same for San Diego? I originally had shorts and tanks packed thinking it would be hotter. Now I’m unsure of what I should put in my suitcase.
