Desperate for advise for my 2 yo with eczema
Hi everyone! I’m a mom of a sweet 2 yo boy who was diagnosed with eczema when he was 9 months old. Since then we have tried everything. Got him allergy tested and removed all triggers including dairy, tree nuts, dogs, and for awhile eggs and soy which were reintroduced but still rarely consumed. He is also majority gluten free because I have celiac and prefer gluten not be in the house. We don’t do a ton of processed sugars and are dye free as much as possible. He was on a topical steroid until March of this year because he had been on it for an entire year and the dermatologist said we should begin weaning him off of them. Since then he’s been having serious and random breakouts that are very hard to control. I’m not sure if it’s eczema breakouts or topical steroid withdrawal to be honest. We can get him to the dry stage right before healing and then he will scratch to the point of raw and bleeding skin and we have to start all over. Usually this happens at night or in the car when I can’t get to him. Currently we do:
- Apple cider vinegar baths at least once a week
- Bleach baths if he has had contact with dogs
- Bamboo pjs and he wears 100% bamboo or cotton during the day
- No shorts even though it’s summer and 100 degrees out
- Get to the pool as much as possible because it seems to be the only thing that helps
- He gets zertec and Benadryl every night before bed per doctors orders
- Salt and clay baths once a month when we can Other notes:
- Every lotion we have tried has made him break out
- Cerave cream broke him out multiple times
- We’re currently trying coconut oil and skin salve which seem not to hurt but also not help Any advice would be appreciated as I’m due to give birth to my second in three weeks and would love to help my son not be as itchy so his sleep won’t be made even worse. TYIA
