Are Tactical Presets Better Than Custom Tactics?

I know that if you use custom tactics your coaches can only get to silver but are there any other ways using custom tactics affects the game? While experimenting with tactics theres games where my players feelslow and sluggish but idk if that's even down to the tactics or something else. I was trying out the counter attack preset and I've been having some success with it but I don't want to have a holding mid in a 4-2-3-1 (2) or a playmaker in a 4-4-1-1, or attacking wingbacks in any wing play tactic... I was thinking of switching to custom but how badly are you nerfed when using a custom tactic? Is it even worth it to keep the presets or are they useless and custom is just better like it was in fc24?

EA really doesn't do a good job of being clear in how their stupid game works.... I wouldn't be surprised if they, themselves, don't know how it works at this point.
