Abnormal pelvic exam post treatment
I’m over here freaking out. Diagnosed with SCC of the cervix September 2024, stage 3c1. Insurance was horrible to work with and I completed treatment in the beginning of February 2025. Treatment included 6 rounds of cisplatin, 25 external radiation, 5 interstitial brachytherapy and I receive keytruda every 6 weeks. So it’s been 4 months since my last brachytherapy and I met with a new to me gynecologist oncologist as I’ve moved cities. He’s never examined me before obviously and I haven’t had anyone visually exam my cervix since February during the brachytherapy. Well he totally freaked me out. He said he believes that there’s still cancer visible on my cervix and his face looked very serious. He went ahead and did a Pap smear and sent in for a pet scan. I haven’t had any imaging since February with the MRIs for the brachytherapy. He started throwing out that if those are positive, we need to have a conversation about a hysterectomy. He also told me I don’t need to use my dilators, that they’re unnecessary. So I’m not sure how much I trust this guy? Idk I was given the impression that you can’t really do a hysterectomy after all that radiation because of the serious risks? Also is it possible that my cervix looks funny because of all the trauma it’s recently been through? Help, has anyone experienced anything similar?
