Should I apologize for saying Happy Juneteenth after they brought up that they are taking the holiday off?
I think I need to apologize but don’t know if that would make it more weird/offensive. One of my clients I am friendly with, but still professional, told me they are taking the holiday off in a text about scheduling. I replied thank you for the update. Also happy early Juneteenth.
I’m concerned it was disrespectful to say “Happy” on a day that is one of remembrance for many. She did not reply. It’s now several hours later. I was going to follow up with something like “I’m sorry about my last text. I genuinely meant to acknowledge and express my respect, but I should have chosen my words better. “ For context I’m Asian American. Thoughts?
