[Suggestion] White Mage redesign concept.

I’ve always loved White Mage, but it’s often criticized for being too simple or having “trap” mechanics like Free Cure that don’t lead anywhere meaningful. So I started thinking, what if we leaned into Free Cure and made it a real, rewarding part of the job’s identity?

Here’s what I came up with:

Expanded Free Cure Chain

  • Cure I (MP: 400): Retains its 15% chance to trigger Free Cure, making your next Cure II cost 0 MP.

  • Cure II, if cast with Free Cure, now has a 15% chance to trigger Free Cure II.

  • Free Cure II allows your next Cure III to be cast for 0 MP!

To balance this out and make Cure III feel powerful but situational, it now costs 5000 MP baseline. That makes it a high-stakes button: inefficient if misused, but incredible if earned via proper Free Cure management.

To further emphasize that timing matters, I added a minor penalty:

  • If you cast Cure III without a Free Cure II proc, it heals for 50% less and applies -10% MP regeneration for 15 seconds (“Overexertion” debuff).

I think this approach gives Free Cure real purpose and depth, makes Cure I and Cure II meaningful again, and introduces a unique identity to White Mage without adding excessive complexity.

Building on the idea to give Free Cure real purpose, I wanted to further support that gameplay loop by encouraging players to keep healing actively, even when party HP is stable! So I’ve introduced a new passive:

Merciful Burden (Lv. 50+)

  • If you don’t cast a GCD healing spell for 10 seconds, you gain Neglected Grace: a stacking debuff that reduces your healing potency and damage by 5% per stack (up to 30%/6 stacks). This also stacks outside of combat.

  • At max stacks, you gain Mercy Fatigue: +1s GCD delay, lilies stop generating, and Free Cure can no longer proc until you cast three healing GCDs in a row.

This creates a gentle push to weave in healing spells more regularly, making Free Cure chains more consistent and rewarding, while giving White Mage a more distinctive identity as a truly proactive healer, even so far as to get them casting Cure during downtime, or between pulls in a hunt train, and so much more!

I think it adds a lot of flavor and helps newer players develop good habits like keeping healing flowing, instead of tunneling into Glare spam like some sort of hardcore raider. Not to mention, people have been begging for healers that actually need to heal! So I thought, why not!?

Would love to hear thoughts! I know this might be controversial, but I genuinely think it makes the job more active, strategic, and flavorful.
