Creative ideas for a budget wedding?

Preparing a wedding

My future husband and I have very different families. He grew up Catholic, but is now atheist— his family still practices. My family will be considered non-practicing Christians. My family do things like twerk for dancing. Meanwhile, I’ve never seen his family dance or listen to music at that. My family came to support his at his mother’s funeral. Other than that, they haven’t gotten time to know each other. Because they’re very different I’m nervous of what the interactions could be and what his family’s expectations of our wedding would be. They’d want use to marry in a church but as I said he’s atheist and I’m agnostic.

I was thinking of eloping and taking our son on our honeymoon or just having a reception. Part of me don’t want to deal with the stress of wedding planning and family expectations. But another part of me don’t want to miss out on having “a perfect day”. Any more creative ideas? Any thoughts as to what I should do? How’d your wedding go between your culturally different families? How did you compromise?
