Hey everyone,

I’m pretty new to painting Warhammer and I’ve hit a bit of a wall. I’m working on a model I’ve already attempted once before, but I wasn’t happy with the color scheme, so I stripped the paint using white spirit and started over.

This time around, I’ve spent hours trying to get it right for the order of the ebon chalice but, no matter what I do, the paint just doesn’t sit properly on the model. I’ve been thinning my paints at roughly a 3:1 ratio (paint to water), but the result is really patchy and blotchy in places. Even when I apply multiple thin coats, the finish doesn’t look smooth.

Another issue is that the texture and detail of the model seem to be getting lost, or the paint runs into areas I don’t want it to, no matter what brush I use. I’ve tried a few sizes and shapes, but the results are always frustratingly similar.

I’m not sure where I’m going wrong—is it the surface after stripping, the paint consistency, technique, or maybe something else entirely?

Any tips, insights, or suggestions would be hugely appreciated. I really want to improve, but I’m stuck in a rut with this one.
