I would like to ask the Christians a difficult question (good faith)

Orthodox, catholics, protestants alike. How do you all distinguish heterodox Christianity from a cult?

Please no obfuscations, detractions, or dodges. I would also say that I strongly dislike it when the most vague responses get the most upvotes, but I understand Christianity well enough to accept such responses.
