Song of the Day Redux, Day 34: The Willing Well II: From Fear Through The Eyes of Madness (Original Acoustic Demo)

The Willing Well II: From Fear Through The Eyes of Madness - Original Acoustic Demo

That's right. Acoustic Willing Well II demo. Sadly, the last Good Apollo demo we have.

The Content: This is the same song, alright. Almost all of the lyrics are the same and everything. It's pretty incredible that he managed to make it work so well acoustically.

The Music: Almost all of the guitar seems to be in place. And the heavy part of the song has so many layered vocals, giving it an incredible feeling. There's an interesting lead riff over the last "you know I'll kill" that kind of reminds me of flamenco or something. I could be hilariously wrong, but it seems to be in that scale. The lead riff over the "no one runs faster than you eat" isn't there, unfortunately, but that's because the outro segment has no time to breathe in the demo. It just fades out fairly quickly during that part. This song is a whole minute shorter than the studio version, and all that changed was the outro. The "no one runs faster than you can" starts a little after 5:40 in both demo and studio version, but the demo runs 6:21, while the studio runs to 7:28.

The Differences:

  • Yawn in intro
  • No "what is this that you keep selling me boy?"
  • But of all the worlds, "this one just won't go to hell"
  • Doesn't end on "you'll burn in hell," but finishes "while they're digging you out" on the last iteration of that line.
  • Clapping into the heavy part of the song
  • Fades out a whole minute sooner

The Part: The part for me is the same as it is in the original song: as father told son in the make of his final escape, [AWESOME GUITAR], should all good boys die with God at their side at the grace of his gates?

What is this that I feel and what is this that I fear?
In these arms that whored out amongst the worms
That mate in these fields, oh
From pressure to pain I wish to stay awake
In the measure I test with your love for me
To shout against these walls
With hope that one will break free
So hear me...

I'm not gonna hold your hand here when you walk
You'll burn in hell while they're digging you out
You'll burn in hell while they're digging you out

So picture this face and burn it to flake
To shelter it at home at the fireplace
And all but memory will fade
With the flick of the flame
So I have a secret that no one should know
That I shouldn't tell
But of all the... but of all the worlds
This one won't feel
This one just won't go to hell

I'm not gonna hold your hand here when you walk
You'll burn in hell while they're digging you out
You'll burn in hell while they're digging you out

In the press of your back
Do you feel the shore swell?
Oh boy, I'm eating my way back home

As father told son in the make of his final escape
Should all good boys die with God at their side,
At the grace of His gates?
No, the Robot holds none with the mind
And a heart to comply
Then I will disguise and grieve of those dead
When I'm given the time

Run, little rabbit...
Go hide in the blades of that grass...
Run, rabbit, run

Should capture be our earnest fault?
Breathe up through lust, I'll find your cure
You know, I'll kill, kill
You know, I'll kill, kill, kill

With your last breath of air
As the Earth comes trembling down
Would you give her this last night
And give up your life

With your last breath of air
As the Earth comes trembling down
Would you give her this last night
The love of your life

No one runs faster than you can
No one runs faster than you
No one runs faster than you eat
(To the end with you... to the end with you)

Next up: Two Erica Courts: "Tell All Your Friends" (Early live version of Lying Lies & Dirty Secrets of Miss Erica Court" + Neverender Erica Court jam.

After that, I'll post on a couple more acoustic versions of Good Apollo songs (Wake Up, and then some of the Kerrang! sessions). Then if no one objects, I think Prize Fighter Inferno would benefit from a Song of the Day treatment. However, that'll take two weeks. Do we want to do that? Or do we want to save it for after all of the Coheed stuff is done?
