I've been finding brown recluse spiders in my apartment :(
I have a small apartment right outside of NoVa. I've been living here since March. Once it got warmer, I've noticed some interesting bugs pop up. About a month ago I found a spider that resembled a recluse. I didnt think it actually was. I didnt think they are up this far north. I caught & released it. A few days later I saw one again. It was deff a recluse. I killed it.
I have two cats that love to "hunt" and im worried about them getting bitten. My apartment is small (~635sqft). I bought a pet friendly spider/ant spray and have been using that around my windows and doors. Figured id be good. I havent seen one since, until 2 weeks ago I woke up to my cat meowing. She does a specific type of meow/trill (my cat peeps will understand) when shes hunting. I got up and discovered she found a brown recluse and ripped several legs off, and somehow didnt get bitten. I took care of the remainder of the spider and sprayed more.
Tonight, a similar thing happened. My cat got ahold of one and ran around with it before I was able to dispose of it. Is anyone else in this area finding them? The few people I've told here claimed to have never seen them around here. I havent seen one in the apartment since the first one I found, but my cat clearly is finding some. Would I have to ask my landlord to take care of this? They are spooky spiders!
