Rules Clarification

These two interactions came up tonight and I just need clarification.

1. My opponent had several 1/1 tokens that were receiving +2/+2 from a creature that was a 2/2. I summon at creature that gives my opponent’s creatures -2/-2 until the end of the turn. This naturally kills the 2/2 but what about the tokens? Do they die as well?

2. My opponent attacked me with a 19/19 and a 9/9. I had a few creatures available to block and declared a 6/6 blocking the 19/19 and a 3/3 blocking the 9/9 but I was told by my opponent I could not block the 9/9 because the 19/19 still had 13 unblocked damage so I had to just take the 9. Is this true?
