Is The Long Walk (book version) televised in universe?

Basically, I was watching the “Um, Actually” Stephen King episode, and something that came up was if the Long Walk is televised. I remember the drawing of names is televised, but I don’t remember the boys mentioning any cameras or previous coverage, and I only remember Garraty feeling self conscious about being seen performing bodily functions when there are in-person spectators. Am I just misremembering and the Long Walk is televised, or was the show wrong about this?
