My laptop went from 543Mbps download / 446Mbps upload to barely 20–30 on both
Hey guys, I’m having a weird issue and I’m not sure what to do anymore, so I figured I’d ask here.
So, I’ve got an ASUS TUF Gaming F15 with an Intel Core i7-12700H and an NVIDIA RTX 4050 (bought it around February this year). For context, my Wi-Fi adapter is a Wi-Fi 6 AX201 160MHz, just in case that matters.
The problem: Around March (not sure the exact date tbh), my internet speed on this laptop just plummeted. I used to get ~543Mbps download and ~446Mbps upload consistently. Now it’s like... 20–30 Mbps on both. At first, I didn’t really pay much attention. I’m a uni student and had other stuff going on. But recently I tried downloading Assassin’s Creed Unity (~45–50 GB) and it was taking forever. Like 10% in half an afternoon.
Which is crazy, because earlier this year (probably early March too?) I downloaded Spider-Man 2, which is over 100GB, and it took about 2 hours or even less. So yeah, the difference is insane.
That’s when I realized this isn’t just "a bit slower", it’s really bad now. Even just browsing or watching YouTube is noticeably sluggish.
Also, I started getting a weird message when trying to connect to my home Wi-Fi (will attach a screenshot for context).
I’m considering reaching out to my ISP, but if it’s not on their end, is there anything I can try? I’d really prefer not to go nuclear and format the whole laptop, mainly because I’ve got a bunch of important stuff I don’t wanna risk losing (projects on Cisco Packet Tracer, VS Code, Visual Studio 2022, LaTeX setups, etc. — stuff that took me a while to get working right).
Any help, advice, criticism, suggestions — anything at all — is super appreciated!
I’m also attaching screenshots of the speed tests from when things were working fine and how they are now.
Thanks in advance!
Just to clarify, I’m using a traductor to help me write this in English (Spanish is my native language), since I have a medium level of English and writing something like this on my own is kinda tough.
This screenshot was taken at the moment I’m posting this.
