What was the point of family mapping

This was one of my 1am thoughts, i started contemplating my life and thought of the things I've done in sec sch. And one of the thigs i remember was having to draw a family map/ a dynamic of your family. I'm not really sure if anyone done this but i recall doing it several times during FT period. Wat was the point of it though? Is the school secretly collecting data or does it looking to help students with a poor family dynamic (e.g. distant/ divorced parents) Just curious abt it
