Too many cooks…5 coaches all screaming during plays
I have found myself as an assistant coach on my son’s 10U team. I was asked to join because the HC was afraid he wouldn’t have enough assistance. Well, I guess everyone got the memo because we arrived the first day of practice with with a HC and 5..yes, five assistant coaches.
All have their heart in the right place. Want to help, want to be involved, and have opinions. The problem is games are getting quite embarrassing on the coaching end. We have 1 HV and 4 assistant coaches standing outside the dugout during any play yelling “throw it home!” “Hold it!” “No” “get it in!” All at once. I’ve resigned myself to just hanging in the dugout quietly because I don’t want to add to the noise.
It’s confusing for the boys, and frankly, it just can get embarrassing having our coaching staff making nearly as much noise as the stands on each play.
We’ve talked about having one clear and single voice going out to the kids on plays, and this was agreed to, but in the heat of the moment goes completely out the window.
Has this happened to anyone else? The HC isn’t enforcing it and I’m seeing why having so many “coaches” in a dugout is not ideal.
