Living with my sister is so mentally draining

Advice Needed

Let me start by saying: I don’t hate my sister, but I’m at the point where I genuinely can’t stand being around her. Her name’s Kylie, and from the outside, people probably think she’s just a normal, chill girl. She’s totally different at school friendly, funny, put together but at home, it’s like a switch flips. And I’m the one who constantly gets stuck dealing with it.

We have nothing in common. Spending time together is basically me being forced into her interests. If we’re hanging out, it’s only doing something she wants to do. And the second I try to do something by myself—watch a show, sit quietly, be in my own room—she inserts herself into it. She’ll waltz in without asking; joins me in movies when I want to watch them alone. or start talking nonstop. If I leave, she follows. Not to mention if she stays and watches my show, she says something like this: "Okay -we- watched your show, now er watch mine. Like whattt?? She treats my space like it’s hers and acts like I owe her my attention.

Now I know right now it seems like I'm the one over reacting, but just keep reading and you'll see why I'm so mentally drained and agitated.

She uses my stuff constantly without asking. Most recently, she lost her volleyball (she plays and practices obsessively), so she decided to grab my light huge yoga ball—which I use for fun and chilling, (and sometimes yoga) and just started smacking it against the walls. Loudly. Over and over. Not just in the day either, she started doing it at like 8PM, when my dad (who just injured his foot and is on crutches) was trying to sleep. Our house is big, so the sound echoes like crazy. My mom told her to stop, and of course, she hits her with her classic phrases: "Who cares?" "No one asked." "Why do you care so much?"

She says stuff like that all the time. If you call her out on anything, she immediately deflects with sarcasm or pure dismissal. She never takes accountability.

I asked her to leave my room and she said, “You don’t own the house.” And "Just go somewhere else"

Like… seriously YOUR IN MY ROOM REFUSING TO LEAVE WHILE IM TRYING TO SLEEP AND TAKE A SHOWER..

It’s always a double standard with her. If I ever even look at her stuff, she throws a tantrum. One time, I wore her flip flops to get frozen yogurt with my family because I was rushing, and my dad was getting impatient. She didn’t even notice—everything went fine—until the car ride home. Then she exploded, yelling at me to take them off immediately. Me, agitated but tried to stay calm to avoid this told her, “I’ll take them off when we get home,” but she just kept going. Rambling. Grilling me for minutes straight.

My mom tried to intervene. Didn’t work. Kylie kept going. Finally, my dad, who’s usually super passive with her, said calmly: “Kylie, that’s enough.” And in the most raspy, furious voice, she just snapped: “No.” It took another three minutes and a firmer, nearly mad: “KYLIE. That’s enough.” Only then did she shut up temporarily. As soon as we got home, she ripped into me again, demanding I take them off like I’d just committed some crime… even though she hadn’t touched those flip flops in weeks.

The worst part? She has no respect for anyone. Not me, not my mom, barely even my dad. She’ll ignore my mom’s rules entirely and say things like, “She doesn’t mean it,” because sadly… sometimes my mom doesn’t follow through with consequences. Kylie knows that, and she uses it.

But what also annoys me is my dad doesn't care what Kylie says to my mom or frankly me, but if it's directed to him it'd suddenly an issue

But do you know what really drives me crazy.. how different she is at school. She acts all nice and put-together, and then comes home and tears me down with stuff like: “You have no friends.” And "Your addicted to your computer" For information she spends as much time on her phone I do computer, but she thinks I'm just doing whatever and she's calling her friends. I literally only play games with friends. she throws those jabs to make me feel small—like it’s her way of staying above me. I don’t understand why someone who clearly doesn’t like me so much needs to be in my space 24/7. She doesn’t care about connection—she just wants control.

And I’m tired of it.

I’m more like my mom, and I try to be calm and mature about things, but it feels like I’m being punished for that. Kylie throws fits, gets attention, controls the mood, and walks around like the house revolves around her. If I try to speak up, I get told I’m overreacting. Meanwhile, I’m the only one respecting people’s space, staying quiet when others need it, and trying to avoid drama.

It’s exhausting.
