Self acceptance when therapists don’t want you to do so
I feel self acceptance is the key to emotional health. Self acceptance even when others don’t accept you. Hell - even self acceptance of the parts of you that don’t accept yourself. But when all of therapy is based on asking you to change, to “heal,” it’s inherently opposite of self acceptance and thereby reinforcing the very shame that is affecting your mental health. It’s the hallmark of an abusive relationship. Make someone feel like they shouldn’t accept themselves…. It makes me sad. I’ve never really met a therapist who put self acceptance at the front.
