Are you allowed to redeem a game you buy on steam to ea app?

So, I noticed people online mentioned that theres redeem codes you can use in the ea app. I bought Sims 3 on steam and then I used the codes provided to add it onto the ea app. Is that allowed? I'm having a bit of anxiety and was wondering.... It was the CD code I used from the game I purchased on steam (I got two dlcs as well. I kept looking online for answers, but it kept saying it was legal and then it wasn't or it depended. Another thing is the game won't launch for me on either apps.
