Multi-Placer Tips Please

Hey crafty friends! I’ve joined this rather addictive art and was hoping to hear from y’all on how to best use a multi placer pen.

Thus far I’ve been using a three wide and have some sections coming where I’ll break my five wide out. However, I’m having trouble placing with the mp, especially when I’m placing next to an already finished row. Despite my efforts, the diamonds set by mp are off-set from their correct place by a decent amount and I’m having to do a bunch of pushing around to get them where they need to go.

Is this a feature? A bug? A bad mp? Any tricks and tips for this tool are greatly appreciated!
