Longtime UK/US viewer here. I thought tonight’s episode was fully consistent with how the show works.

OBSERVATION

Alpha-Hots never win.

This is a random term my fiancée and I came up with during a UK season when these ridiculous bombshells would stroll in looking like legit gods and goddesses above the rest. They’d be taller, fitter, and overall utterly insane to look at. A dead ringer to win, right?

Nope.

Jeremiah was an Alpha-Hot (note: we don’t necessarily mean “alpha male” or whatever. It’s just folks who are that much more of a threat to the others when it comes to physical appearance).

Often times, appearance is all they have to offer, and they coast on their laurels without putting in as much effort into strategizing how they can build meaningful relationships with the other islanders. And why would they? In their experience, LI is a cakewalk to them. They can have any islander they want. And quite often, they’ll pick another Alpha-Hot to make for a lethal (or so they think) coupling.

But therein lies the vulnerability and it’s one that folks like Ace will fully exploit.

Love Island isn’t a beauty contest. You don’t win by being “the best.” You win by avoiding the folks who drag everyone else down to the middle.

To be clear, saboteurs like Ace don’t usually win either. But in this highly fucked up and shallow ecosystem we’re seeing unfold, they’re a counterbalance to the chiseled heartthrobs that strike fear into every insecure islander’s heart.

Anyway, for those joining in S7 and thinking this is some huge downturn from “how things used to be,” rest assured that this is definitely part of the brutal process to the final.
