AITAH for asking my ex-roommate to pay rent after he moved out of our shared room

I’ve been sharing a rented room with my roommate (Adam) for the past 10 months. We had a clear agreement to split the rent 50/50. The lease is under my name, but we both committed to a 1-year contract with the owner, and everything was fine—until recently.

About a week before this all happened, Adam stopped coming home. No warning, no explanation. I assumed maybe he was staying somewhere else for a bit and didn’t ask.

Then one day, while I was at work, he came back to the room, packed up all his stuff, left the key, and left. No goodbye, no text, no discussion. I came home and saw his side of the room completely empty. That was the first time I realized he had moved out.

I tried texting him to ask what happened, but he never replied. It’s been days/weeks and I’ve heard nothing. We still have 2 months left on the lease, and now I’m stuck paying the full rent alone.

I reached out to ask him to still pay his share, at least until the contract ends, or at least communicate with me—but he’s completely ghosted me.

Some people would say I should just move on, but I honestly feel like I’ve been left with all the responsibility after he bailed.
