Shokuho Question

I’ve noticed while playing the new flavor of Bannerlord, joining an army as a soldier passively loses me money each turn. Played for a few turns getting my reputation up with tournaments and bandits, then asked to join a lord’s army as an ashigaru.

All was well and good until I realized I had lost my sizeable amount of gold (14k) while I was employed. Checked the gold flow and I was getting -807 (offset by my generous 1g a day) in garrison and party expense. Chalked it up to a bug because I hadn’t disbanded my 20 troops before joining.

Reload and disband, joined still losing money. Reloaded and got rid of everything but the armor and weapon I had bought with my bandit and tournament winnings. Still losing 807 a turn.

Is there something I’m missing in the mod? Are you not allowed to have wealth if you’ve signed on as a soldier or is it a bug where I’m paying for my lords army?

Any insight would be helpful, because if it’s a bug, I’ll go back to the mercenary band to lordling route.
