Does singing properly get enjoyable for worship leading?
I sang in my twenties in college. I am now in my fifties and decided to take voice lessons and audition for the worship team.
I am so out of practice. It is so hard to execute it: use the diaphragm, take breaths in the right spots, stand up straight without getting tired, remember the words, sing on pitch and use correct intonation. Then there is the performance side of it—stand in front of others and expose a secret part of me, look like I’m into it, but not too haughty or fake, dress the part, deal with others’ interactions off the stage.
I know I have a good voice, but I’m not sure if this will be enjoyable. And will it be more comfortable the more I do it? I’m forcing myself to do this as a promise to my husband and to myself as well.
I’m questioning that I have what it takes, aside from the musical ability I have. And it makes me sad I never worked on this in colllege. I left voice lessons because the teacher gave me feedback, of course.
I’m currently in therapy and know I have a ton of baggage to work through.
From your experience, how long does it take to make this comfortable?
