My husband has changed how I celebrate my birthday

I am a few days apart from my sibling in birthdays. So as a youth it was always a forced celebration.

As we got older, I became their fiercest defender- and that extended to celebrating their birthday like the fucking miracle it was.

After 20 years with my husband, I want to actually celebrate my own birthday. Because I’ve always downplayed it, and chosen simple reminders that I matter (like just sitting at home with ice cream.) But my husband has taken small and large efforts throughout the years to make my day my own.

I just now experienced my birthday, and he waited to play my favorite song for birthdays (the one from Thor Ragnorak of all things lol) and made sure to set up plans with my kid and their SO for my day activity tomorrow.

Find someone who celebrates you like you never celebrate yourself. I’m literally tearing up at the thoughtfulness. That is all.
