So I'd been eyeing the Tenable line of Budget Knives quite a bit recently and finally purchased the Kryo Black Micarta and Black Stonewashed blade. Let me put it this way, I was really disappointed.

But first the positives... The knife blade came appropriately centered, second, the weight was not as heavy as I expected. Third, the spring tension on the crossbar lock was not to tight or loose/mushy. Fourth, the pocket clip was unobtrusive and didn't cause any pain points in my grip. In general the fit and finish were fine for a knife in this price point.

But then the negatives started to add up quickly... First, the micarta was not great, it was both fibrous while also being somewhat slippery which is actually quite an achievement. In the end it just felt cheap, some of the worst Micarta I've felt on a knife handle.

Second, the crossbar studs were almost flush with the knife scales and if they were sufficiently group that wouldn't be a problem, but they have a rounded dome and were very slippery. My fingers actually slipped off of them multiple times when trying to close the blade, which is not great!

Third, they have all the screw sizes, T6 on the pocket clip, T8 on the body screws and T10 on the Pivot... And FYI, the pivot is free spinning meaning you will need two different T10 drivers to unscrew the pivot screws (seriously this is 2025, stop this, it's stupid... I'm looking at you too Sencut).

And this is where it gets interesting... When you disassemble the knife (at least as much as you can) you realize that while they did give you three options for changing the spring tension, the crossbar cannot be removed from the knife liners. Seriously, it's one of the dumbest things I've seen.

That is until you realize that when you do remove the blade that the inset for the ceramic ball bearings are in the liners, not the blade. Yep, you read that right! You have to put the bearings into the liners (which you cannot separate because the lock bar is holding them in place), and then try to hold said bearings in place while sliding the blade back into position between the liners.

Needless to say this is going back as I like to maintain my knives and this was too much of a hassle to work with, especially considering the micarta and crossbar stud issues.

Not sure how they made such bad decisions, but I was almost impressed.

Tenable Knives Kryo - Dissapointing (sorry it's long)
