Genuine Question

I've been browsing the subreddit for a while (+ just remembered I had a reddit account), and I've noticed a recent trend in people asking and complaining about the Headmaster "just being turned into a creep" and "has been ruined" as if it was a recton from this past month. However, the Headmaster tapes have at least been around since 2020 (found an old blog post from YandereDev on May 15, 2020 discussing he had finished writing the Headmaster tapes), if not earlier.

Which is at least a year before 1980s mode (the announcement trailer was on a blog post on October 10, 2021), when we see the Headmaster as that young, hopeful man the first few tapes show.

So why are people... acting like it was a recent retcon when the tapes showing he was a creep was out before the "kind, well-intended" guy we see? No hate to anyone, I'm just a bit confused as someone who's known he was a once-nice-man-turned-deplorable-predator before seeing the nice guy.
