Society is holding up way too well

Watching this show, I don't get much of a sense of urgency around the world. They nod to hospitals being overwhelmed and Congress shutting down, but overall, societal cohesion is holding remarkably well. No widespread looting or riots, crazy conspiracies generating terrorist groups, or attacks on public officials. There doesn't even seem to be widespread absenteeism at work. We're one day away from the apocalypse and DC seems pretty normal. I wish there was a bit more world building to show how the approaching disaster is affecting the world, beyond news clips about the stock market collapsing.
