Are independent car dealerships that bad?

I’m trying to get a Toyota Prius through a private seller but the ones in my area either have too many issues or are just not worth it. I’ve started seeing listings from independent dealerships nearby and a few even have 4.7+ reviews on Google.

I’m open to financing through an independent dealership if it means getting the car I want but I’ve also read a lot of people warning against these types of place especially buy here pay here ones. Are they really that bad?
