Dealing with Doubters
I’ve been taking my son to wrestling camps, practices, and tournaments nonstop. He trains hard, competes at state and national levels, and puts in serious work. I’m not on the mat with him, but I’m in the grind too, sacrificing time, spending money, and even doing a little coaching along the way. This isn’t just a hobby for us, it’s a commitment we’ve both made.
Everyone in our lives knows how serious we are about this. But over the weekend, someone close to our family made a comment to my wife that really stung. They basically said, “What’s the point? Do you think he’s going to be a UFC fighter or something?” And they said it in a way that wasn’t supportive, just dismissive and condescending.
I don’t know why, but it hit me hard. It felt like everything we’ve poured into this was being laughed at. I know better than to let it get to me, but it still broke my heart. I just needed to share this here because I know a lot of you have probably been through the same thing.
We’re not quitting. We know what we’re building. But man, it still hurts when people who should support you the most are the ones who minimize the effort.
Ive actually dealt with crap like this my whole life but never for my own son. It kinda touches harder since they’re close people to me saying things like about a kid.
Anyone else deal with this kind of stuff?
