AITA for being upset with my girlfriend for asking for birthday gifts
I (17f) and my girlfriend (18f) have been together for almost a year now. I generally cover dates because I make more than her and my parents cover most of my expenses while my girlfriend has to pay for most of her necessities. I don’t mind this but recently I feel like she’s taking advantage of my willingness to pay. What really stuck with me was how when my birthday came she didn’t get me anything. We went to dinner which I paid for and just hung out after. I wasn’t upset with this because I had told her I didn’t want anything and while I would’ve appreciated a little effort it’s my own fault for telling her not to worry about it. This isn’t the issue. The problem is her birthday is coming up and she has asked for numerous expensive gifts as well as expecting a nice dinner and I’m sure she’ll add more when the day arrives. It’s getting to a point where I feel like she’s cares more about what I’m willing to give her than she does me. I’m not even super wealthy and it’s taking a toll on my savings constantly buying things for her. It’s makes me sick to think about bringing this up to her but every time I think about seeing her on her birthday it makes me kind of angry because I know she wouldn’t do anything like this for me and she still has the nerve to constantly ask for more. Would I be wrong for bringing this up now or should I at least wait until after her birthday?
