How is the state of duo supported by bots play now?

Played previously(slightly before 1.0) with a friend, and our sticking point was when we'd go outside the sub for missions... often we'd come back to a wrecked sub, so we'd have to have one person mind the sub while the other went and that wasn't great either with the bots having poor self-preservation. Playing solo actually felt more reasonable as you could dynamically swap between bots to deal with issues sometimes.

Have there been any changes duo with bot support work better? I know they nerfed the auto-reactor just after we stopped playing so I'm guessing there's more chaos to deal with only two people now?
