Insurance claim cash settlement: good or bad?

Asking here because the phone wait time is long, and they haven’t replied to my email.

Long story short: my insurer offered me a cash settlement for flooding in my house (caused by another company).

Just wondering if anyone’s been through this process? What are the pros and cons of a cash settlement? Does this mean I get paid a set amount and I can choose what fixes to do?
