Am I over reacting to MIL

Am I Overreacting?

I’ll keep it short, my MIL and I have had, for the most part, a civil relationship. We’re not the biggest fans of each other. She’s pretty controlling and I want no part of it. She’s got opinions on everything from what your wearing, your hairstyle, job, hobbies, all that, and if you don’t do what she thinks you should be doing you’re an idiot because she’s always right.

Things have gotten pretty rough lately because she wants to insert herself into our children’s special education needs. My husband, and his brother are autistic, and so am I (auadhd). My husband and his brother got services in their childhood education, that she fought for which is great, I told her I would love her support. And her support, means she wants to be incharge of everything, and then we take a backseat because we don’t know what we’re doing according to her and can’t learn. She wants to be at every meeting, and when she finally got her hands on the kids evaluations, we’ve done everything wrong.

She’s a lawyer (divorce attorney) with no background in education, except for her experience from 30-15 years ago with her sons, and when she likes to google random articles supporting her claims. She refuses to acknowledge anything has changed in the last 15-30 years, and she claims the kids are suffering and doing terrible because their “scores” are so low. The scores she’s talking about are my daughters psychological evaluation, and she scored above average in every category except for communication, because she struggles and has a speech delay. Both kids (3.5, and 5) get speech, OT, and special education assistance in the classroom. They’re both greatly improved since entering in the classroom (the 3.5 is still in daycare, but is going into a special education early childhood program in the fall, but he’s still greatly improved). They’ve just started in school we don’t know all of what their needs are, and where we can improve. Also I specifically moved to this school district because they have a great special education program, and they’ve been great I’ve never once gotten any push back yet, and they’re very nice to work with.

She says I’m not doing enough, and her son’s “scores” were never that low.

I stopped talking to her. I don’t want to hear it, this information is based on information from years ago at this point, and the other stuff is just made up. Also she pissed me off earlier in the month by saying that my daughter doesn’t like her and it’s because (my daughter) is never happy to see her, she doesn’t smile often (she smiles all the time) and (my daughter) needs to improve so they have a better relationship.

I’m really done with this lady, this isn’t half of our history but it’s the straw that broke the camels back for sure.

My bad, I’d said this would be short, tis not.
